Grodan Rockwool Blocks

The raw material is basalt rocks and chalk. These are melted at 1600 C°. The lava is blown into a spinning chamber, which pulls the lava into fibers, much like ‘cotton candy’. When Mother Nature makes this wool we call it ‘angel hair’. If you have ever visited a volcano, you may have seen the fluffy angel hair flying around.

We pack the fibers together into a mat and cut GRODAN slabs & cubes from it. The stone wool Gro-Wool™ is bags with little flocks of ‘angel hair’.

You can view the blocks and slabs as a fancy form of container for your plant. The container (or the stone wool) holds the perfect ratio of water and air that your plant needs. The fibrous structure of the stone wool gives your plant something to anchor in. The container or the stone wool does not provide any food for your plant. You have complete control over nutrition because you use plant food in the water each time you water.
